Zet het in je agenda! Op 3, 4 en 5 juni 2022 vindt op en rondom de Wallen de 9e editie plaats van Red Light Jazz, met als thema ‘Live Sax on Stage’. Deze editie is een staand concert. Let op enkele tafeltjes met stoelen zullen aan de zijkant aanwezig zijn maar verder niet.
Voorprogramma: NTJAM ROSIE
Sinds haar debuutalbum Elle (2010) heeft de in Kameroen geboren Ntjam Rosie (1983) een trouwe fanschare opgebouwd in binnen- en buitenland. In februari 2020 verscheen haar zesde studio album Family and Friends dat door pers en publiek ook weer goed werd ontvangen. In december 2021 verscheen haar thuis opgenomen solo EP, Home Cooking. Intussen werkt ze aan Elle: reworked dat later dit jaar zal worden uitgebracht.
Ntjam Rosie had een hoofdrol in de controversiële en prijswinnende theatervoorstelling Dear Winnie. Eerder toerde zij langs Nederlandse theaters met het Artvark Saxophone Quartet (Homelands), werkte zij mee aan Urban Myth’s We hadden liefde, we hadden wapens en produceerde zij haar eigen voorstelling Breaking Beats.
Ntjam Rosie speelde al op vele grote (jazz) festivals in meer dan twintig landen. Op nationale radio en televisie is zij een graag geziene gast.

Lijken diepe grooves op truffels? Wie het Artvark Saxophone Quartet hoort, zal het grif aannemen. Artvark gromt, graaft en vindt waar anderen in het duister tasten. Partner in crime op deze muzikale zoektocht is het eveneens vierkoppige slagwerkcollectief Drums United.
Terwijl de saxofoons van Artvark meeslepende melodieën en bezielde soundscapes laten horen, stuwen de percussionisten van Drums United hun ultieme world groove de ruimte in. Een tijdloze trip langs opzwepende ritmes en een meditatief koraal, zangerige percussie en een stomende saxofoonsolo.

Het Artvark Saxophone Quartet bespeelt al 17 jaar de nationale en internationale concertpodia: van de Rotterdamse Operadagen tot het Cairo Jazzfestival. Daarnaast waren ze ook vaak in het theater te horen, van Polderbeest met acteur John Buijsman, een voorstelling vol polderblues, tot het theaterconcert Homelands met Kameroense zangeres Ntjam Rosie.

Drums United staat voor spectaculair drums- en percussiegeweld door top-percussionisten afkomstig uit vier continenten: Afrika, Zuid-Amerika, Azië en Europa. De percussiegroep toerde over de hele wereld en wordt sinds 2001 geleid door Lucas van Merwijk: in 2020 door de lezers van De Slagwerkkrant wederom gekozen tot beste World en Fusion drummer van de Benelux.

Since her debut album Elle (2010), Cameroon-born Ntjam Rosie (1983) has built up a fan base in the Netherlands and abroad. Her sixth studio album Family and Friends was released in February 2020, which was again well received by the press and the public. Her home-recorded solo EP, Home Cooking, was released in December 2021. In the meantime, she is working on Elle: reworked which will be released in 2022.
Ntjam Rosie had a leading role in the controversial and award-winning theater performance Dear Winnie. She previously toured Dutch theaters with the Artvark Saxophone Quartet (Homelands), collaborated on Urban Myth’s We had love, we had weapons and produced her own performance Breaking Beats.
Ntjam Rosie has played at many major (jazz) festivals in more than twenty countries. She is a regular guest on national radio and television.

Artvark & Drums United will take you on a timeless trip, passing a meditative choral statement with singing percussion directly into the face of steaming saxophone solos.

After 17 years the Artvark Saxophone Quartet continue to feel at home playing big international concert stages for their diverse fan base: from the Rotterdam Operadagen to the Cairo Jazz Festival. Besides holding the crowds with their live shows, they have engaged in numerous very well received collaborative projects. Among others, Sly meets Callas with classical soprano Claron McFadden, Polderbeest with actor John Buijsman, Bosch in Bed with dance company De Stilte and Homelands with Cameroonian singer Ntjam Rosie.
