About Tobacco Theater
A look behind the scenes
Once a bustling tobacco auction house, now the stage for stunning cultural performances and spectacular commercial events. TOBACCO is an unsubsidized theater (meaning: we like to do things our own way) that provides free space for cultural activities. And yes, that costs money. We genuinely believe that this cultural investment creates a commercial synergy that enhances the success of business events at our venue.
Our core values: details, details, details, no one-night stand but a lasting relationship, and we settle for nothing less. These principles are the common thread in everything we do. We believe in building long-term connections with our guests and partners, working closely together to create unique, tailor-made events that exceed expectations.
By choosing TOBACCO, you directly contribute to the cultural program. Revenue from commercial activities such as product presentations, conferences, corporate parties, business meetings, and dinners enables us to support, expand, and make musical, artistic, and creative activities accessible to a wide audience.
In the hidden catacombs of our historic city monument lies the hospitality kitchen—a culinary paradise where fresh, local ingredients are transformed into flavorful creations. Under the inspired leadership of Michelin-starred chef Dennis Huwaë, TOBACCO lovingly serves top-level breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In addition, we collaborate with other caterers who know exactly how to ignite taste buds, each with their own unique specialty. We are happy to think along with you to find the perfect match. Prefer your own caterer? No problem, that’s perfectly fine! For more information, check out our latest foodbook below.

At TOBACCO Theater, creativity is always buzzing, but sometimes something magical happens: a new initiative that inspires, moves, and gives the future a stage. The ‘Stel je Voor’ Foundation is exactly that. It’s our tribute to young talent—a place where dreams and ideas grow into unforgettable moments.
Our building is steeped in history, but we also look toward the future with determination. Sustainability is not a choice for us—it’s a responsibility. While there’s still a long way to go, we are steadily taking concrete steps to reduce our ecological footprint without ever compromising on quality or experience. We consciously choose local suppliers, invest in energy-efficient solutions, and collaborate with sustainable partners such as Greenbookings and Oscar Circulair. This commitment goes hand in hand with our love for Amsterdam. Want to learn more about the history of TOBACCO Theater and the Nes? Read more below.
